There is much to be proud of when we examine the education ecosystem in Texas. In just the past few years, Dallas ISD, for example has passed and implemented the nation’s most comprehensive teacher and principal evaluation system, created the Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) schools, achieved record Pre-K enrollment and gains, made Dallas ISD a District of Innovation.
Just in the past few years, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees voted to curb suspensions for our youngest students (Pre-K - 2nd grade). Over the past five years we have cut the number of IR campuses to almost none remaining in our district. We applaud our schools, teachers, students and city leadership for their strong commitment to high expectations and student centered efforts. We also realize that there is still work to be done to ensure we continue to increase the quality of education for all of our children and create equitable access to opportunities across the city of Dallas. A critical area of that work lies in the governance structure that so deeply impacts the classroom and the 160,000 students attending Dallas ISD schools everyday in the Metroplex. The lesson learned is that strong boards make strong schools and the work to support our local school boards is critical to the success of our teachers and students. |
